In 2005 we launched Contact Fund to bridge the gap between community-based organizations that were capital constrained and high net worth individuals. Since inception, Contact Fund has placed $10mm in direct loans to New York City nonprofits and raised $8mm from 80 accredited investors. In 2019 we launched Contact Fund II, which focuses on housing development and takes a step outward on the risk/return frontier. In 2023, we will launch, with SeaChange Capital Partners, the New York City Shelter Acquisition Fund.
Since 2006, we have placed $34 million in enterprise-level private equity investments with mission driven, for-profit affordable housing developers. From 2006 – 2018 we capitalized the growth of Alembic Community Development. Since 2010 we have been principals of Thorobird Companies. Since 2014 we have invested as a co-General Partner with Hudson Companies. Mark Reed serves on the Hudson Companies Investment Committee.
Since 2018 we have been developer-owners in the Downtown North neighborhood of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Starting with 1188 Lofts, we invested equity in the rehabilitation of vacant historic buildings. In 2023 our work continues with the redevelopment of the Dillon Building. The Downtown North section of Bridgeport is located in a federally designated Opportunity Zone with a walkability score of 87.
